Harper’s Next Move, Blackmailing Governor General

Harper’s supporters are now blackmailing the Governor General saying she better reject the coalition or else.

h/t The regina mom blog. Here’s a National Post report quoted on that blog.

Sputtering with rage in the Post, Michael Bliss goes so far as to demand that the Governor-General reject any no-confidence vote supported by the Bloc — and if she doesn’t, it amounts to “an abuse of vice-regal power” that raises “fundamental questions about Ms. Jean’s loyalty to the Constitution and to Canada”.

Here’s a Parliament Democracy for Dummy to counter Harper’s spin that this is undemocratic.

Each member of parliament were voted by Canadian voters. If the majority of elected MP voted non-confidence on the government, the government falls. That’s democracy at work.

  1. Forget Blackmail – Harper might even dare to replace her entirely as a pre-emptive strike, and declare her a separatist (her husband apparently has separatist links) and liberal sympathizer (she was appointed by Paul Martin) or something afterwards.

  2. Canadian has become a laughing stock in Africa. who would have thought that a Canadian PM would refuse to leave office after a vote of no confidence – (which will pass if he allows the opposition to pass it through)
What is the difference between Harper and President Mugabe of Zimbabwe?? or President Kibaki of Kenya??

How can Canada Preach Democracy to developing countries when they themselves are playing the same games?? refusing to accept the will of the people through their representatives elected by the people in the house of commons(THE OPPOSITION)..
Canada should not be allowed to advise any other country on democracy- (example Obama) that was full fledged democracy in the USA and that is a man who will carry respect world over.. Harper should be ashamed of himself and I sincerely pity the Canadian people . they are being taken backwards- maybe Canadians are asleep – do they see what is happen in the world?? Democracy must work in order for there to be better governance and peace in the world.. what PM Harper is doing to the Canadian Democracy is shocking to us in Africa..

    Ask us.. tribal warfare
ethnic hate( seems that is what you have with French Quebec)
don’t go that route.. Canada will never be the same

m advise to your leaders- work together on a common cause.Obama seems to be doing fine.

  3. I’m so angry with GGJ right now.

You’re 100% right though. We elect our MPs based on geographic ridings, and arguing that one area of Canada has less of a right to govern than another is not only immoral and undemocratic, but probably unconsctitutional. The Conservatives can be in power even if they came out of the Prairies, the Grits can be in power coming from an Ontario base, and the Bloc can be in power representing the region of Quebec. Harper needs to stop acting like a child who’s dropped his ice cream.

The thing is, he’s normally a very astute politician.
