Taxpayer’s Bill For Harper’s “Prudent Government” Bigger Cabinet

Harper was harping about how his government will be a prudent one during the election. Soon after the election, he rewarded large numbers of fellow Conservatives with Cabinet positions. He also increased the number of cabinet positions so now more of his party mates can share in the reward. The cost? A 19 percent increase in expenses courtesy of taxpayers. And that’s for salary alone. (source/link: CP news). Harper’s excuse is we need extra political oversight during hard economic times. If we need additional oversight and watchdog, it’s in non-partisan public service sector. But for Harper, the non-partisan public servants are nothing but his whipping boy. And if they don’t bow to his wishes and tow the partisan line, they will be summarily dismiss or harassed until they are forced to resign. Election chief and CNSC head are just few of the more notable examples.

Patronage politics during tough economic times at the expense of taxpayers. Such vulgarity and he only have a minority government.
